Brushing teeth every day is a great habit but still many people brush occasionally as brushing teeth twice a day is recommended by the American Dental Association. Now most of us brush teeth every day as they are cautious with a question that “should I brush my teeth before or after breakfast”.

We must understand that brushing teeth is as important as caring like other parts of the body.

This article is for the people who are really cautious towards their teeth as this is important to understand the right time of brushing teeth.

Every morning after waking up you probably have seen people with a brush or a coffee in their hands. Now let me make it clear that you should brush your teeth before breakfast.

Lesson 1

Why do we Brush out Teeth before Breakfast?

Let’s make it clear with an example and proof so that after reading this you should bring this into practice.

Saliva that produces during day time is quite beneficial for our teeth. It helps to keep our teeth clean and hygienic by removing bacteria and also protects from decay because of the mineral inside them.

Now during the night, while sleeping production of saliva decrease and so bacteria inside our mouth increases. So if you eat or drink anything in the morning before brushing, those bacteria will convert all the sweets and carbohydrates into acids.

Brushing before breakfast will also help to reduce the plaque.  

What if you still want to brush after breakfast?

Skipping breakfast is not good and this is why I want to let you know that what if you still want to brush after breakfast.

The outer shell of teeth is made up of enamel which is very strong but still, we should continue keeping it strong. So, if you want to brush your teeth after breakfast then wait at least 30 minutes after having breakfast.

Though this is not recommended, till the time you are not able to bring the practice of brushing teeth before breakfast you can go this way.

 


Lesson 2

Drink Water as soon as you wake up in the morning

Drinking water should be the first activity after waking up in the morning.

RIGHT: Before breakfast and brushing your teeth. Let me explain why?

No 1:- All the water that you drink before going to sleep is consumed by your body during the night. So when you wake up in the morning and drink a glass of water it helps to rehydrate your body.

No 2:- As explained above, all the bacteria inside your mouth increase during the night. Drinking water will clean all those bacteria and make brushing teeth more effective.

Lesson 3

How long to wait to eat after brushing teeth?

Though many of us might know or maybe know aware that we should brush our teeth before breakfast.

But do you know how long to wait after brushing your teeth?

Probably most of us rush to have a coffee or juice after brushing which is not recommended by the dentist. You must wait at least 30 minutes after brushing your teeth.

I would recommend that you should start your morning by brushing your teeth first, then shower and have your breakfast.

Lesson 4

Should I brush my teeth after every meal?

As recommended by the American dental association you should brush your teeth twice a day.

But you can brush your teeth twice a day but wait at least 45 minutes after every meal. Now here exception is the breakfast because you need to brush your teeth before breakfast and after drinking water.

Rest brush your teeth after your dinner maintaining the time duration and you can also after lunch if manageable.

How to Brush your Teeth                 

Brushing teeth twice a day is an important part of your dental care. Here I am sharing few important tips on how to brush your teeth.

  • Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to the gums and gently rub it on the back and front end of your tooth.
  • The main objective of brushing is to clean all the surfaces of our teeth, so make sure you brush on every part like the inner, outer, and chewing surfaces.
  • For the inner surface, you can bend your brush vertically and move up and down to clean the teeth and gums.
  • While moving your brush on your teeth left and right also gently move up and down.

Along with the above instruction on brushing your teeth, I am also sharing few tips for maintaining hygienic teeth.

  • Keep your toothbrush always covered when not in use.
  • Change your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months.
  • Try using Anti Cavity toothpaste and an Electric toothbrush which will also help you to reduce plaque and give you white shining teeth.
